                               **San Andreas Citizenship Course**

Important State and Local Laws:

The region of San Andreas uses the Police as the most respected member

Some routine traffic violations include:

Speeding
Reckless Driving
Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road

Criminal Violations:

Driving Under the Influence
Theft
Grand Theft Auto
All Degrees of Murder
Larceny [Obtaining property by fraud or deceit]
Blackmail
Kidnappings [Uses most RP]
Refusal to Cooperate With an Officer
Vandalism

This is definitely not an all inclusive list, but represent the majority of processed violations.

Law Enforcement Expectations:

You can expect a friendly encounter with the police if you remember to follow a few rules.  The first is to always cooperate with the police no matter what the accusation or situation.  Most stops will result in a verbal warning or a small fine.  If you continue to argue with the officers, your fine and arrest will rise accordingly.  The last thing you want to do is get stopped for a simple violation and end up with jail time for a felony evasion or disorderly conduct.

When being approached during a traffic violation, remain in your vehicle unless told otherwise.  Follow the instructions of the officer even it may seem rude or out of line.  Complaints may be filed after the stop and your punishment will be overturned if the officer is found to be acting in a manner that is unacceptable.  Do NOT attempt to question the officer's instructions unless you need clarification or do not understand the instruction itself.  This means that you should not be questioning the officer's intentions during the stop.  Again, any questionable actions or statements by officers should be addressed at the police department.

What Do I Do If I've Been Arrested For Something I Think Was Not Wrong?

Cooperate and remain calm.  Most often times it will be a painless and quick process, but it can be drawn out by your failure to cooperate.  Contact a lawyer [RP RULES FOR THIS PLAYER WILL BE ADDED SOON], immediately, and have them meet you before you are booked.  Inform the officer that you would like to invoke your right to a lawyer and then the process for booking will stop until a lawyer is present.  A lawyer will not necessarily get you out of being arrested, however, they are there to advise you on your rights and ensure that the officer follows the rules.  Also, once your rights have been read to you, you may refuse to answer an officer's questions until a lawyer is present.  It is at this point that a lawyer can advise you on which questions you have to and do not have to answer.  Until an officer reads you your right, you are required to answer their questions.
